MISSISSAUGA,ON – Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood invites the community to discover the creative energy of the bustling centre at its Open House on Saturday, September 24, 2016.
VAM will offer family fun including an “Artist Trading Card” activity, live art demonstrations, instructor ‘meet-and-greets’, a new art exhibition, prize giveaways and more! The event runs from 10 am until 3 pm. VAM is located at 4170 Riverwood Park Lane in Mississauga. Admission is free.

The City of Mississauga is leasing roof space at the Huron Park Recreation Centre and the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre for solar power generation. It’s not every weekend DJ Jazzy Jeff performs on Mississauga Celebration Square but lucky for Square visitors, it’s happening next Saturday, making the Square a summer bucket list destination that can’t be missed this Labour Day long weekend.
The third annual SoundBites festival and AwesTRUCK Food Truck Awards starts at 5 p.m. with live preshow entertainment. The food truck awards will be presented throughout the night by event hosts James Cunningham, of Food Network Canada’s Eat St. and Ross Hull, Weekend Meteorologist, Global News Toronto.
More than 30,000 visitors are expected to follow their noses to the tasty food truck eats on the Square. The best food truck creations from all over the country are voted on by the public and awarded throughout the night as part of the AwesTRUCK Food Truck Awards.
In addition to the awards and more than 25 gourmet food trucks, there is also a spectacular free concert featuring the one and only DJ Jazzy Jeff starting at 10 p.m.
Not ready for the evening to end? No problem. Weather permitting; the event will close with a spectacular fireworks finale starting at 11 p.m.
Starting September 6, 2016, Metrolinx is adding one new morning and one new afternoon GO train trip between Milton and Toronto that will stop at all stations along the Milton line, including those in Mississauga: Lisgar, Meadowvale, Streetsville, Erindale, Cooksville and Dixie. The new trips will run as follows:
A new trip will depart from Milton GO Station at 5:59 a.m. each weekday, making all stops to Union Station and arriving at 7:00 a.m.
A new trip will depart from Union Station at 5:55 p.m. each weekday, making all stops to Milton GO Station and arriving at 6:54 p.m.
Also, construction will begin this fall to add over 250 parking spaces at the Streetsville GO Station, bringing the total number of available spaces to more than 1,700. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2018.
