A Taste of Eden – Best Year Yet

On Friday, October 28th more than 250 people attended Eden Food for Change’s 7th annual A Taste of Eden, sponsored by the Kothari Group, raising $50,830.96.

The event featured a 4-course dinner prepared by Chef Peter Costello, a popular silent auction, fun ‘gaming tables and a cash bar that had wines specifically selected by Chef Costello to pair with the evening’s entrée options.Charles Thorton, a local Financial Consultant who attended the event for the first time shared that it was “a fun night for a worthy cause.”

The majority of those in attendance donated directly to Eden Food for Change after hearing former Food Bank member and current volunteer Karen S. share her story. Karen spoke about how she and her husband dealt with multiple hospital visits that come with being the parents of two children living with Cystic Fibrosis, a daughter diagnosed with autism and a healthy son who excelled for years playing high school football only to be dealt a severe concussion. She also shared how the medical issues were compounded with her husband’s job loss.

After hearing her story, people donated directly to help Eden Food for Change continue to provide a safe place for people to go to when they are struggling with hunger and be treated with respect and served with dignity. When the announcement was made that $4,780 was donated that night, Jess Mann COO of Mantralogix (another event sponsor) stepped up to say that they would donate to raise the amount to $5000.

“This is always a fun night,” said Executive Director Bill Crawford, “but not only is it a good time, but it is a great opportunity to raise awareness of our many programs and raise much needed funds.”

Another highlight of the evening was the grand door prize. This year CoreChair donated an ergonomic chair worth $995.

The 2016 A Taste of Eden saw multiple local businesses and organizations step-up to sponsor the event. The Kothari Group was the Title Sponsor. Mantralogix, The Meadowvale Lions and Direct Nissan were the Evening Sponsors and Bentall Kennedy, Canada Day Together and Fastsigns were program sponsors for the evening.

Eden Food for Change has two Food Bank locations that serves western Mississauga. The Learning Kitchen provides people with the skills to prepare healthy food on a limited budget and the Fresh Produce Box program provides everyone with the ability to access affordable fruits and vegetables.
