Arts on the Credit is launching an exciting event at the Waterside Inn, Port Credit, this June 18th, 11 – 5.

Arts on the Credit: Jewels will be the first show ever to focus almost entirely on original jewellery produced by jewellery artists in the area. The jewellers will present many different styles, using different metals, extraordinary beads and crystals and vintage components, in some cases.

Craig Ewing is a master at creating beautiful beaded pieces to wear. “Most pieces are built one tiny bead at a time,” says Ewing. Tammy Warren works in silver and says, “I want my jewellery to move with its wearer. It should always complement their style.

Along with stunning jewellery, there will be one of a kind fashion accessories, such as beautiful ostrich & fish skin leather handbags by Christine Vonbun. “I began an affair with handbags very early on and have always believed in an ethos of quality, beauty, balance, elegance and sustainability,” quotes Vonbun.

David Dunkley, official milliner to the Queen’s Plate, who studies regularly in Britain, is joining Jewels with his fabulous millinery creations. Dunkley will also be showing some of his bridal collection.

Joanne Jones will present handbags and other accessories, all from reclaimed personal items. All “mined reCREATIONS” are handcrafted and benefit young people in economically challenged countries, breathing in new life to create something wonderful. “Each bag holds a story and when you purchase one of my bags, it’s up to you to give that story many more chapters,” says Jones.

In total, Jewels on the Credit will present nineteen different art-based jewellers and makers of fabulous fashion accessories. These are pieces to embellish your wardrobe and last a lifetime.

Jewels on the Credit will take place one day only, June 18th, 11 – 5 at the Waterside Inn. Our launch this year will be FREE and we will be offering a fabulous draw prize donated by the Waterside Inn – a BFF weekend for two which will include a night’s stay in one of their 2-bedroom residential suites with breakfast or brunch the next morning.

VAM SHOWCASES THE CREATIVE ENERGY OF MISSISSAUGA’S YOUTH

Grab the kids and join the fun! Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood will stage a vibrant exhibition of emerging talent at its annual VAM Children and Teens’ Spring Art Celebration. All are welcome to the event featuring over 250 creative works by VAM students aged 6 to 18.

The exhibition will run Saturday June 3 and Sunday June 4, 2017 from 9 am to 4 pm. VAM is located at 4170 Riverwood Park Lane, Mississauga, Ontario.

FREE ACTIVITY: VAM will also offer free art-making activities for youth on Saturday June 3, 2017 (11 am to 3 pm) and Sunday June 4, 2017 (10 am to 3 pm).

“We look forward to the VAM Children and Teens’ Spring Art Celebration each year. The exhibition showcases the burgeoning creative energy of Mississauga’s youth,” explains VAM Arts Program Manager, Lisa Robinson. “This event gives artists as young as six an opportunity to proudly present their work to the public. PEOPLE’S CHOICE: Family and friends will vote for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Three special Curry’s Prize Packs will be awarded on Monday, June 5, 2017. Be Active. Celebrate Seniors’ Month and Recreation and Parks Month in June

June is Seniors’ Month and Recreation and Parks Month in Mississauga. Residents are encouraged to participate in a variety of outdoor and indoor events offered by the City. These programs and events provide residents with the opportunity to make Mississauga a healthy, active and engaged community.

“We are excited to celebrate Recreation and Parks Month and Seniors’ Month this June with a variety of activities and events,” said Paul Mitcham, Commissioner of Community Services. “Our programs focus on promoting active lifestyles and the overall well-being and health of residents. No matter what age or ability, residents can access activities and events within their neighbourhoods.”

Seniors’ Month
Seniors’ Month is a province-wide initiative that recognizes the commitment and contributions of older adults to the community. It provides an opportunity to promote programs and services available for older adults living in Mississauga. This year’s theme is “Living Your Best Life”.

  • Older Adult Expo: On June 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the City is hosting its annual Mississauga Older Adult Expo at the Hershey Community Rinks. Teens Got Talent Open Call for Participants

The Mississauga Arts Council’s Limelight Youth Association in collaboration with Rotary’s Rotaract Youth Group is looking for talented teens to audition for

“Teens Got Talent” juried singing contest!

The contest takes place on:

Saturday June 3, from 2-6 pm at the Streetsville Bread ‘n Honey Festival in Streetsville Memorial Park and for the finalists, an encore and prize presentations on Sunday June 4th.

If you are interested in auditioning or know someone who would be perfect for this competition. Please follow the steps below to be considered!

We will select the top 30 performers from the audition clips and send them their appearance schedule and details about playback.

The top 3 finalists will be selected to perform on Sunday June 4, 2017 on the Main Stage at the Bread and Honey festival. The grand prize winner will automatically be placed in the finals of Singfest at Ribfest on the weekend of July 16th, 2017 they will also receive a free recording session at MetalWorks Studio. 2nd and 3rd place will also receive valuable prizes.
