Tickets are now on sale for the 2013 MARTY Awards! The MARTY Awards this year are taking place on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the state-of-the-art Hammerson Hall at the Living Arts Centre. The red carpet will roll out at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start promptly at 7 p.m. Expect glitz, glamour and positive vibes as the best of the best get together under one roof for this highly acclaimed spectacular event. Now into its 19th year, the MARTYS Awards celebrate the artistic triumphs of the city's established artists while encouraging and supporting emerging artistic talent. Produced by the Mississauga Arts Council, the MARTYS have been coined as an important launch for many Mississauga artists' careers. Past winners have included runner up finalist for So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Amanda Cleghorn; rock bands, illScarlett and Billy Talent; Jazz pianist, Nancy Walker; filmmaker, Richie Metha and many more! This year's MARTYS will be hosted by local Mississauga actor and comedian, Tristan Barrocks! Watch his promo video here: http://vimeo.com/64605947. He will be joined on stage by the Johnny Max band, the Con Brio Singers, the Alma Quartet, a collaborative performance by Zohra Zoberi and Vibonics, the Cawthra Dancers, with Marielba, Eduardo and Greg playing during the reception and Kyle Fraser playing during the VIP after party. Each category will honour an emerging artist and an established artist. Winners will receive a cash prize, extensive media coverage and recognition at the MARTYS. There will also be two awards given out to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the arts in Mississauga; the Laurie Pallett Patron of the Arts Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award. The winners of these special awards will receive an original award. The council will also announce the winner of the Creative Community Award, an award honouring art forms that aren't traditionally recognized including fibre arts, spinning and weaving, tattoo art, jewelry, fashion arts etc. Tickets for the MARTYS are $25 and may be purchased now by calling 905-615-4278.
