NEW YORK/DETROIT (April 7, 2013) – The 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 1, when the Detroit Red Wings® will play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs® at Michigan Stadium on the University of Michigan campus, the National Hockey League announced today. It is anticipated that the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® could set a world record for attendance at a hockey game. Nicknamed The Big House®, Michigan Stadium is the largest of its kind in North America. The game will be broadcast live on NBC in the U.S. and on CBC and RDS in Canada. Mississauga, ON - The Steelheads looked to start 2013 with a win over a divisional opponent on home ice, and did so with a convincing 5-2 win over the visiting IceDogs. Niagara opened the scoring for the third time in as many games at the Hershey Centre this season when Steven Shipley beat Tyson Teichmann for his 20th goal of the season from the right circle at 18:03.
Mississauga, ON - The Steelheads returned to the Hershey Centre after a 12 day lay-off, looking to take advantage of a depleted Generals lineup. Mississauga recorded the first four shots of the game, but Oshawa struck first when Scott Sabourin beat Spencer Martin five hole from below the circle to give the Generals the lead. Scott Laughton extended the Generals lead to two on the power play less than a minute later.
