The Credits, a Celebration of Cultural Heritage

Steelheads acquire Jake O’Donnell from Sarnia

Mississauga, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads announced today that they have acquired defenceman Jake O’Donnell from the Sarnia Sting in exchange for a fourth round pick in 2016.

O’Donnell was selected by the Sting in the fourth round (61st overall) of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.  Last season, the Bowmanville, Ontario native split time with the Sting and the Sarnia Legionnaires of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. In 16 games with the Sarnia Sting, O’Donnell recorded 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists), and 13 points (1 goal, 12 assists) in 42 games with the Legionnaires. Prior to the start of the 2015-16 season, O’Donnell was invited to the U-17 Development Camp where he suited up for Team Black alongside Steelheads’ defenceman, Nicolas Hague. He pitched in for 1 goal and 1 assist in three games for Team Black.

During the 2013-14 season, O’Donnell recorded 12 points in 31 games with the Clarington Toros. The 98-born defenceman also had impressive showing at the U-16 Ontario Gold Cup that season, picking up 5 points in as many games for Team OMHA White.

The Steelheads would like to welcome Jake and the O’Donnell family to the organization.

CVC Seeks Nominations for Environmental Awards

When it comes to a healthy environment, Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) believes anything is possible with a little help from its friends. To honour local efforts, CVC is seeking nominations for its annual Friends of the Credit Conservation Awards. The awards program recognizes first-time projects and initiatives, as well as those that have extended over multiple years. Consideration is given to all projects that promote a healthy environment.

“For three decades it has been our privilege to honour those who have improved the health and wellbeing of our communities,” said Mike Puddister, CVC’s Deputy CAO and Director of Watershed Transformation. “The awards program is our way of recognizing those in the community who stand out for their leadership and environmental contributions.”

The Friends of the Credit Conservation Awards are given annually to people who demonstrate environmental excellence in the watershed. Nominations are open to individuals, landowners, schools, community groups, businesses and youth (25 and under) who have made a significant contribution to the local environment.

Call For Entry – Mississauga Central Library Architextural Identities

MISSISSAUGA, ON – Visual Arts Mississauga at Riverwood (VAM) is pleased to present a new opportunity for visual artists to showcase their creative works. VAM is currently accepting submissions from emerging and established artists for its upcoming exhibition ARCHITEXTURAL IDENTITIES at the Mississauga Central Library located at 301 Burnhamthorpe Road West in Mississauga. The exhibition will run from December 7, 2015 to January 30, 2016 providing selected artists with the chance to showcase their works for 50 days.

“We are thrilled to present new opportunities for artists to benefit from increased exposure,” says Executive Director Annis Karpenko. “The first exhibition we presented with the Mississauga Central Library, Art in Motion, celebrated the creative energy that surrounded the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games. The exhibition gave 40 Ontario artists exposure to a larger audience. ARCHITEXTURAL IDENTITIES offers experienced and emerging artists the same chance to again, showcase their work to a broader audience.”

ARCHITEXTURAL IDENTITIES, invites Ontario artists to explore an assemblage of shape, text, texture, and experience that forms the essential character or condition related to who a person or what an object is.
