NEXT GENERATION OF VISUAL ARTISTS MAKE THEIR MARK

MISSISSAUGA, ON – Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood working in collaboration with The Open Gallery is shining the spotlight on young emerging visual artists! VAM will be hosting its new exhibition,The Art of Dialogue, running from February 5, 2018 to February 18, 2018 at The VAM Gallery located at 4170 Riverwood Park Lane in Mississauga.

The Art of Diaolgue will support emerging artists working in experimental processes using a combination of traditional and new media. The Art of Dialogue will feature over 25 emerging artists from the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area.The exhibition is proudly sponsored by TD Bank.

VAM is pleased to host a public Opening Reception on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 7 pm. The evening will include performances by emerging spoken-word artists Tisania Smith, Tobi, Kaiya Crawford. vocalist Shope and DJ ROSEMIGHTY.

“The Art of Dialogue is an opportunity for youth artists from Mississauga and the GTHA to share their artistic process, stories, and perspectives through a visual statement,” explains VAM Exhibitions and Events Coordinator Eldiana Begovic. “We are excited to host this youth exhibition in conjunction with a show by The Open Gallery, a youth led mobile gallery based here in Mississauga. We invite you to take in the art and see what our next generation of artists have to say.”

VAM will present cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the Opening Reception on Friday, February 9 at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend the Opening Reception, admission is free. Please click here for additional details.

VAM SEEKS ARTISTS 60+ FOR NEW EXHIBITION

MISSISSAUGA, ON – Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood is inviting artists aged 60+ from across the Greater Toronto/Hamilton to apply for its third annual exhibition,Third Chapter: Celebrating Lifelong Learning.

VAM’s Third Chapter exhibition will celebrate the benefits of engaging in the arts in the ‘third chapter’ of life. Presented in partnership with CARP and the Mississauga Senior Council, Third Chapter will run from February 20, 2018 until February 25, 2018 at The VAM Gallery. “As I enter into the Third Chapter of my life, I am acutely aware of the power that making art and socializing with like-minded people can have in a person’s life,” explains Annis Karpenko, Executive Director. “The Third Chapter is often the most exciting, liberating and enjoyable time of our lives. Our artists exhibit a wonderful sense of joy in sharing their work and inspirations with each other. This kind of community is integral to the success we enjoy at Visual Arts Mississauga. ”

Join the celebration! All are welcome to the Opening Reception to be held on Sunday, February 25 at 2 pm. VAM will host an Artist Talk exploring the topic of Lifelong Learning with the Arts at this time. The Opening Reception will include refreshments and admission is free.

In conjunction with this exhibition, VAM will also host a solo exhibition featuring the work of Orythia Johnston running from February 26 to March 4, 2018.

VISUAL ARTS MISSISSAUGA HOSTS ‘HOLIDAY ARTISAN MARKETPLACE’

MISSISSAUGA, ON – Get in the holiday spirit with Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood! VAM is pleased to launch the festive season with its annual Holiday Artisan Marketplace. The event will feature the creative works of over 20 artists and artisans, a café by The Social Cupcake, treats and more! All are welcome to the event running Saturday, November 11 through Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 10 am until 4 pm. VAM is located at 4170 Riverwood Park Lane in Mississauga. Admission is free.

“Our Holiday Artisan Marketplace offers an inspired shopping opportunity,” explains Event Coordinator, Eldiana Begovic. “Our event showcases high-quality art and handmade gifts including smaller paintings, fashion items, jewellery, woodwork textiles, sculpture, glass, crafts and more. Freshly baked holiday goodies will be available for purchase to make your visit even more delightful. VAM’s Holiday Artisan Marketplace is one of the first artisan crafters shows (of the 2017 season) presented in the Greater Toronto Area. MILESTONE 40th ANNUAL JURIED SHOW OF FINE ART

Call for Entry and Juror Announcement

MISSISSAUGA, ON –Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) at Riverwood welcomes artists from across the province to apply to its milestone 40th Annual Juried Show of Fine Arts. VAM40, the prestigious exhibition will kick-off 2018 as one of Mississauga’s leading arts events. VAM40 will showcase an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary visual arts works. Selected works will be on display at the Art Gallery of Mississauga (AGM) from January 11– February 10, 2018. The AGM is located at 300 City Centre Dr. in Mississauga.

VAM is pleased to announce its distinguished panel of jurors for VAM40:

Faisal Anwar is an interactive artist/producer based in Canada. He is a graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s Habitat-LAB and was earlier trained in graphic design at Lahore’s National College of Arts. Anwar’s art practice integrates art, culture and technology in odd configurations to explore our perceptions of private vs public spaces and social interactivity in modern urban cultures.

John Armstrong completed his undergraduate studies at Mount Allison University in 1978, and in 1980 received a Masters degree from Chelsea College of Art in London, UK. Armstrong has taught painting since 1982 in Art and Art History, a collaborative Honours B.A. program between Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario and the University of Toronto Mississauga. Over the past ten years, he has collaborated with Paris artist Paul Collins: their paintings on photographs, videos and publications have been on view in a number of solo and group exhibitions in Canada and Europe.

Jayne Wilkinson is a Toronto-based writer, editor, and curator. She holds an M.A. in Art History and Critical Theory from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) and her research focuses on contemporary art and photo-based practices with specific attention to issues of surveillance, security and representation. She has contributed critical essays to a variety of journals and publications, including C Magazine, Prefix Photo, Inuit Art Quarterly, InVisible Culture and others. She is Assistant Curator at the Blackwood Gallery, University of Toronto Mississauga.
