“We’ve always had a strong demand to provide a Brampton pick-up site,” says Bill Crawford, Executive Director of EFFC. “There were many times that someone was picking-up seven, eight, nine or even ten boxes and would tell us that they were from Brampton. And Good Food Brampton is a great organization that we are really happy to partner with for this program.”
After much demand, Eden Food for Change is partnering with Good Food Brampton to provide Bramptonians with easier access to its Fresh Produce Boxes.
For more than two years the Fresh Produce Box of Eden has provided people with access to affordable fruits and vegetables with their $10 and $20 boxes that usually provide patrons with twice the value of their local grocery store. The popularity of the program was clear as orders grew from 50 boxes a week to hundreds. In order to better serve its community, Eden Food for Change (EFFC) opened up an additional five Friday pick-up sites in western Mississauga in the summer of 2015.
Throughout the program there have been numerous customers from Brampton, many of them taking turns to pick-up for friends and family to help put healthy fruits and vegetables on their tables in an affordable way.
As the program grew significantly in 2016, due to the rise of produce prices, it became clear that it was time for a Brampton pick-up site to begin. EFFC reached out to Good Food Brampton (GFO) to form a partnership. With both organizations focused on providing healthy food and cooking education to people living in poverty, and both official members of Good Food Organizations, it was a natural partnership.
“This partnership with Eden Food for Change strengthens our fight to address food security in Peel region. It allows Good Food Brampton to expand on its food access program and collectively contribute to a healthier community,” states Tom Gancarz, Program Manager at Good Food Brampton.
Orders for the Fresh Produce Box program must be placed online by 4 pm the day before pick-up at www.edenffc.org/fresh-produce-box.
