STEELHEADS TO HOST 7TH ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR TOSS

In conjunction with Canadian Tire, the Mississauga Steelheads are set to host the club’s 7th annual Teddy Bear Toss on Sunday, December 9th.

For the seventh consecutive season, the Mississauga Steelheads will be supporting the Boys and Girls Club of Peel by hosting the always exciting annual Teddy Bear Toss Game. The tradition continues with the Saginaw Spirit visiting the Paramount Fine Foods Centre on Sunday, December 9th to take on the Steelheads in a matinee contest that gets underway at 2:00PM.

Once again, this year’s Teddy Bear Toss is kindly presented by Canadian Tire – an organization that makes a tremendous impact here in Mississauga and across the Peel Region.

Scott Morash, General Manager of Canadian Tire Meadowvale comments on behalf of the game’s presenting partner, “By partnering with the Mississauga Steelheads for their annual Teddy Bear Toss hockey game, the five local Mississauga Canadian Tire stores are able to give back to children in our community. Be it a stuffed toy given out by the Boys and Girls Club of Peel or by helping kids participate in sports through our own JumpStart program, we are able to use this community event to help put a smile on the faces of those children that benefit from this annual event.”

Michael J Gyovai, Resource Development Manager for the Boys and Girls Club of Peel comments on the impact this event has on their organization. “The partnership with the Mississauga Steelheads and Canadian Tire is essential to the long-term growth and development of the program and services we offer to the children, youth and families in Mississauga and across Peel. It is because of local partnerships like with the Steelheads we are able to provide opportunities for our youth to thrive, in school and society.”

The Steelheads, Canadian Tire and the Boys and Girls Club of Peel encourage all fans attending the game to bring a stuffed toy with them to the game on Sunday afternoon. As tradition has it, when the Mississauga Steelheads score their first goal, the gracious fans respond by tossing their stuffed toy onto the ice. The toys are then gathered from the ice and transported to the Boys and Girls Club to be given out as Christmas gifts for those kids who may not have otherwise received anything.

Prior Teddy Bear Toss Goal scorers include Trent Fox (2017), Spencer Watson (2016), Nathan Bastian (2015), Lucas Venuto (2014), Dylan Smoskowitz (2013) and Riley Brace (2012).

As part of the festivities on Sunday afternoon, Canadian Tire will be set up on the concourse selling bears for fans to toss on the ice will all proceeds going back to Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart Foundation. Additionally, tickets for children 12 and under are just $6 while fans are encouraged to bring their skates and join the Steelheads for a post-game skate with the team after the final buzzer.
