STEELHEADS TO HOST BELL LET’S TALK GAME

The Steelheads moving mental health forward in Mississauga with annual Bell Let’s Talk game on Sunday, January 20

On Sunday, January 20, the Mississauga Steelheads will play host to the Sarnia Sting for the 7th annual Bell Let’s Talk game night in support of mental health at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

Mental illness affects Canadians of all ages and from all walks of life. Many people living with a mental illness report that the stigma causes them more suffering than the illness itself. As a result, two-thirds of those suffering from mental illness are too afraid to reach out for help. On January 20, we encourage our fans to join the conversation about mental health and help fight the stigma of mental illness.

The Steelheads are proud to announce that the club will be donating $5 from every Platinum level ticket sold for the game on January 20 to the Canadian Mental Health Association – Dufferin Peel.

STEELHEADS COMPLETE SECOND TRADE WITH SPIRIT

For the second time in three days, Steelheads GM James Richmond has completed a trade with the Spirit ahead of next week’s deadline. Heading to Saginaw in the deal is long-time Steelhead, Owen Tippett. In exchange for the Peterborough native, the Steelheads receive ’01 Centreman, Aidan Prueter, a 3rd round pick in ’19 (SAG), a 7th round pick in ’19 (SAG), a 2nd round pick in ’20 (BAR), a 3rd round pick in ’20 (SAR), a 7th round pick in ’20 (SAG) and a 2nd round pick in ’21 (SBY).

Head Coach and GM, James Richmond comments on today’s transaction, “We would like to thank Owen Tippett for his time with the Mississauga Steelheads. He is a very special person and we wish the very best for him. Owen is a wonderful teammate and as fans have seen, a very electrifying hockey player. He will be missed and we wish him well.”

Originally selected 4th overall by the Steelheads in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection, Tippett amassed a club record 114 goals and 203 points in just 182 regular season contests to go along with 27 points in 33 post-season appearances.

In regards to the player coming back in the deal, Richmond adds, “We are excited about adding Aidan Prueter to our hockey club. Aidan brings a high compete level and skill set to our team. We have just added another core piece for our hockey team now and moving forward. We would like to welcome Aidan and his family to the Steelheads family.”

Prueter, a late-birth ’01 Centreman, was selected 24th overall in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection by the Saginaw Spirit. In this, his second full Ontario Hockey League season, the London native has recorded 6 goals and 13 assists for a total of 19 points in 36 games played. In his rookie season with the Spirit, Prueter posted 3 goals and 11 points while skating in 63 of the club’s 68 games. Aidan is not eligible for the NHL Entry Draft until 2020.

Following today’s trade, the Steelheads roster now boasts 4 players selected in the top 30 of the 2017 OHL draft including Thomas Harley, Aidan Prueter, Duncan Penman and Keean Washkurak.
